طلبت هيئة النقل الكندية (ترانسپورت كندا) من شركة طيران الهند إجراء تحقيق داخلي عاجل في حادثة خطيرة وقعت في 23 ديسمبر 2025، حيث تم إزاحة أحد طياري الشركة من الطائرة قبل إقلاعها من مطار فانكوفر الدولي بعد أن أظهر اختباران للتنفس إيجابية لوجود كحول في دمه، مما يجعله غير صالح للطيران.

وفقًا لوكالة «رويترز» كشف مصدر مطلع على الأمر، أن الشرطة الكندية أجرت الاختبارين في المطار، ووصفت الهيئة الكندية الحادثة بأنها «أمر خطير» في رسالة رسمية موجهة إلى الشركة، محذرة من احتمال اتخاذ إجراءات تنفيذية ضد الطيار والشركة.

وطالبت الرسالة، التي وقعها مسؤول كندي يدعى أجيت أومن، طيران الهند بتقديم نتائج التحقيق والإجراءات الوقائية بحلول 26 يناير 2026.

من جانبها، أكدت شركة طيران الهند في بيان رسمي أن الرحلة من فانكوفر إلى دلهي (مع توقف في فيينا) تأخرت في اللحظات الأخيرة بسبب الحادثة، وتم استدعاء طيار بديل لتشغيل الطائرة، التي كانت من طراز بوينغ 777 وتتسع لنحو 344 راكبًا.

وأوضحت الشركة أن السلطات الكندية أبدت مخاوف بشأن لياقة الطيار دون الكشف عن تفاصيل إضافية، مشددة على أن «الطيار تم إيقافه عن الطيران أثناء التحقيق، وأن الشركة تتبع سياسة عدم تسامح مطلق مع أي انتهاك للقواعد واللوائح».

وأضافت أن أي انتهاك مؤكد سيؤدي إلى إجراءات تأديبية صارمة.

تأتي هذه الحادثة في وقت تواجه فيه طيران الهند، المملوكة لمجموعة تاتا وشركة طيران سنغافورة، تدقيقًا شديدًا على سلامة عملياتها.

فقد لقي 260 شخصًا مصرعهم في حادث تحطم طائرة بوينغ 787 دريملاينر تابعة للشركة في 12 يونيو 2025 أثناء إقلاعها من أحمد آباد، وهو أحد أسوأ الكوارث الجوية في العقد الأخير.

كما أصدرت هيئة الطيران المدني الهندية (DGCA) هذا الأسبوع إنذارات لأربعة طيارين آخرين في الشركة بسبب «مخاوف سلامة خطيرة» تتعلق بالامتثال للوائح واتخاذ قرارات الطاقم، حيث قبلوا تشغيل طائرة بوينغ 787 رغم معرفتهم بأعطال متكررة وتدهور في الأنظمة.

وفي سياق متصل، اقترحت الهيئة الهندية سابقًا تشديد قواعد اختبار الكحول للطواقم، بما في ذلك إسقاط الرخصة نهائيًا بعد 3 اختبارات إيجابية، بينما تحظر القوانين الكندية على الطيارين تشغيل الطائرة خلال 12 ساعة من تناول أي مشروب كحولي.

The Canadian Transportation Agency (Transport Canada) has requested Air India to conduct an urgent internal investigation into a serious incident that occurred on December 23, 2025, where one of the airline's pilots was removed from the aircraft before its departure from Vancouver International Airport after two breath tests showed positive for alcohol in his system, rendering him unfit to fly.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Canadian police conducted the tests at the airport, and the Canadian agency described the incident as "serious" in an official letter addressed to the airline, warning of the possibility of enforcement actions against the pilot and the company.

The letter, signed by a Canadian official named Ajit Auman, demanded that Air India provide the results of the investigation and preventive measures by January 26, 2026.

For its part, Air India confirmed in an official statement that the flight from Vancouver to Delhi (with a stop in Vienna) was delayed at the last moment due to the incident, and a replacement pilot was called to operate the aircraft, which was a Boeing 777 with a capacity of approximately 344 passengers.

The company clarified that Canadian authorities expressed concerns regarding the pilot's fitness without disclosing additional details, emphasizing that "the pilot has been grounded during the investigation, and the company follows a zero-tolerance policy for any violation of rules and regulations."

It added that any confirmed violation would lead to strict disciplinary actions.

This incident comes at a time when Air India, owned by the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, is facing intense scrutiny over the safety of its operations.

On June 12, 2025, 260 people lost their lives in the crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner belonging to the airline during its takeoff from Ahmedabad, which was one of the worst aviation disasters in the last decade.

The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also issued warnings this week to four other pilots in the company due to "serious safety concerns" related to compliance with regulations and crew decision-making, as they accepted to operate a Boeing 787 despite being aware of recurring malfunctions and system degradation.

In a related context, the Indian agency had previously proposed tightening alcohol testing rules for crews, including revoking licenses permanently after three positive tests, while Canadian laws prohibit pilots from operating an aircraft within 12 hours of consuming any alcoholic beverage.
