لم تكن ليلة عادية لتلك المرأة الأسترالية في مدينة «نامبور»، حين تعثرت قدمها في الظلام بجسم غريب، لتكتشف لاحقاً أنها لم تكن سجادة أو قطعة أثاث، بل ثعبان ضخم من نوع «بايثون السجاد الساحلي» اتخذ من بيتها مأوى مؤقتاً.
وفقاً لما نقلته مجلة People، تعاملت صاحبة المنزل مع الموقف ببرود أعصاب يُحسد عليه أهالي أستراليا؛ فبمجرد معرفتها أن الثعبان ينتمي لفصيلة غير سامة، قررت تركه يتجول في المنزل بحرية، مراهنة على أنه سيمل ويغادر من تلقاء نفسه مع حلول الصباح.
لكن الثعبان كان له رأي آخر؛ إذ قرر تمديد إقامته، ما دفع المرأة للاستعانة بـ«دانيال بوسترا»، الخبير ومؤسس مركز (Snake Catcher Dan) لإنقاذ الموقف بعد ليلة كاملة من التعايش الإجباري.
صائد الثعابين يعلّق
وصف «بوسترا» الضيف الثقيل بأنه «كائن جميل»، لكنه اعترف في الوقت ذاته بأن رؤية ثعبان بهذا الحجم يتحرك بحرية داخل البيت كفيلة ببث الرعب في نفوس الأشخاص الذين يعانون من فوبيا الزواحف.
بخبرة وحذر، تعامل بوسترا مع البايثون لعدة دقائق حتى تمكن من السيطرة عليه بالكامل، ووضعه في كيس مخصص لنقله تمهيداً لإعادة إطلاقه في بيئته الطبيعية بعيداً عن المناطق السكنية.
يُذكر أن «ثعبان السجاد الساحلي» يُصنف -وفقاً لمركز Toohey Forest للتثقيف البيئي- كأحد أكثر الأنواع انتشاراً في أستراليا، وهو كائن عاصر السكان طويلاً، ويتميز بقدرته على النمو ليصل طوله أحياناً إلى نحو أربعة أمتار كاملة.
It was not an ordinary night for that Australian woman in the town of "Nambour," when she stumbled in the dark over a strange object, only to later discover that it was not a rug or a piece of furniture, but a huge snake of the "coastal carpet python" species that had taken refuge in her home.
According to what was reported by People magazine, the homeowner handled the situation with a level of calm that would make Australians envious; as soon as she learned that the snake was non-venomous, she decided to let it roam freely in her house, betting that it would get bored and leave on its own by morning.
However, the snake had other plans; it decided to extend its stay, prompting the woman to call in "Daniel Pustra," the expert and founder of the (Snake Catcher Dan) center to rescue the situation after a full night of forced cohabitation.

Pustra described the unwelcome guest as a "beautiful creature," but he also admitted that seeing a snake of that size moving freely inside the house is enough to instill fear in the hearts of those who suffer from a phobia of reptiles.
With experience and caution, Pustra handled the python for several minutes until he was able to fully control it and place it in a designated bag for transport, preparing to release it back into its natural habitat away from residential areas.
It is worth noting that the "coastal carpet python" is classified - according to the Toohey Forest Environmental Education Center - as one of the most widespread species in Australia, a creature that has coexisted with humans for a long time, and is known for its ability to grow to lengths of up to about four meters.
