وفّرت سنوات الرئيس الأمريكي السابق جو بايدن الطويلة في دهاليز السياسة الأمريكية معاشاً تقاعدياً غير مسبوق في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة، يتجاوز حتى راتبه عندما كان في المكتب البيضاوي.

فبحسب تحليل أعدّه نائب رئيس مؤسسة «National Taxpayer Union Foundation» ديميان برادي، فإن بايدن يحصل على معاش سنوي يقدر بنحو 417 ألف دولار، وهو رقم يفوق راتبه الرئاسي البالغ 400 ألف دولار، بحسب ما نقلته صحيفة «نيويورك بوست».

ووصف برادي الرقم بـ«اللامعتاد»، مؤكداً أنه الأكبر بين جميع الرؤساء السابقين، بل إنه يعادل ضعف ما يتقاضاه الرئيس السابق باراك أوباما بعد مغادرته البيت الأبيض.

ويكمن السر في المناصب التي شغلها، إذ عمل بايدن «سيناتوراً» لأكثر من 4 عقود، ثم نائباً لرئيس الولايات المتحدة، ثم رئيساً، هذا المسار سمح له بالاستفادة من ثغرة قانونية تتيح الجمع بين معاشات تقاعدية متعددة ممولة من الخزانة العامة.

According to an analysis prepared by Damian Brady, Vice President of the National Taxpayer Union Foundation, Biden receives an annual pension estimated at around $417,000, a figure that surpasses his presidential salary of $400,000, as reported by the New York Post.

Brady described the figure as "extraordinary," confirming that it is the largest among all former presidents, and it is even double what former President Barack Obama receives after leaving the White House.

The secret lies in the positions he held, as Biden served as a "Senator" for over four decades, then as Vice President of the United States, and finally as President. This trajectory allowed him to take advantage of a legal loophole that permits the combination of multiple pensions funded by the public treasury.
