Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Azraq Al-Fanjari, the commander of special operations in the Rapid Support Forces, announced his defection from the forces and his alignment with the Sudanese Armed Forces, in a new development in the ongoing war in Sudan.
Al-Fanjari stated in a video clip that his decision came after a "sincere self-review and deep contemplation" of the situation the country has reached as a result of the war, describing what the country is experiencing as a "senseless war."
300 Officers and Soldiers and 30 Vehicles
According to Al-Fanjari's announcement, he left the ranks of the Rapid Support Forces accompanied by about 300 officers and soldiers, in addition to 30 combat vehicles, announcing that this force has aligned with the Sudanese Armed Forces.
This step comes amid the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has led to widespread humanitarian and security repercussions in the country.
Apology to Sudanese Families
In his speech, Al-Fanjari declared his innocence from what he described as violations and abuses against civilians and their properties during the war, and he extended an apology to Sudanese families for the events that have taken place in the country.
He called on his comrades in the Rapid Support Forces to leave the fighting and return to what he described as the "embrace of the homeland," and to unite behind the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Call to End the War
Al-Fanjari emphasized that his new position stems from his rejection of the continuation of the war, stressing his alignment with the "sanctity of Sudanese blood," in a message in which he called for an end to the fighting and a return to the homeland.
Al-Fanjari is known as the leader of the special task group affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces, and his name has previously been associated with this group in earlier Sudanese reports.
As of now, it has not been possible to independently verify all the details announced by Al-Fanjari regarding the number of defectors and the accompanying vehicles, nor has there been a detailed official response from the Rapid Support Forces regarding the announcement of the defection in the sources reviewed.
