أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب تعيين المعلقة المحافظة كاتي زاكاريا متحدثة جديدة باسم البيت الأبيض، خلفاً لكارولين ليفيت التي غادرت المنصب في أغسطس الماضي، في خطوة تعيد ملف التواصل الإعلامي للإدارة الأمريكية إلى الواجهة.
وقال ترمب، الجمعة، عبر منصته «تروث سوشيال»: «إنه لشرف عظيم لي أن أعين كاتي زاكاريا للتو في منصب السكرتيرة الصحفية للبيت الأبيض»، معرباً عن ثقته بقدرتها على تحقيق نتائج قوية، ومؤكداً أنها تحظى باحترام وسائل الإعلام والشعب الأمريكي وإدارته.
وأشاد الرئيس الأمريكي بزاكاريا، واصفاً إياها بأنها مناصرة وفية له منذ البداية، مشيراً إلى مشاركتها في حملاته الانتخابية ومساهمتها في ولايات متأرجحة رئيسية. كما وجه الشكر إلى ليفيت، التي قال إنها أدت عملاً ممتازاً خلال توليها المنصب.
وتنتمي زاكاريا إلى التيار المحافظ المؤيد لترمب وحركة «لنجعل أمريكا عظيمة مجدداً» (ماغا)، وظهرت بصورة متكررة في وسائل إعلام محافظة، من بينها «فوكس نيوز» و«نيوزماكس»، للدفاع عن سياسات الرئيس الجمهوري ومواقف إدارته.
وتحمل زاكاريا شهادة في العلوم السياسية والحكومية، إلى جانب شهادة في القانون من جامعة بيبرداين وكلية كاروسو للقانون التابعة لها. وسبق أن عملت متحدثة ونائبة مساعدة لوزير الشؤون العامة في وزارة الأمن الداخلي الأمريكية، كما شغلت مناصب في المجالين السياسي والإعلامي، بينها العمل مستشارةً أولى للاتصالات في مجموعة ترمب للإعلام والتكنولوجيا، التي تدير منصة «تروث سوشيال».
ويأتي تعيينها بعد مغادرة ليفيت منصبها في نهاية أغسطس، بعدما أعلنت رغبتها في التفرغ بدرجة أكبر لعائلتها. وكانت ليفيت قد تولت المنصب مع بداية الولاية الثانية لترمب، وأصبحت من أبرز الوجوه الإعلامية للإدارة، عبر إحاطاتها الصحفية ومواجهاتها المتكررة مع الصحفيين داخل البيت الأبيض.
ويحمل منصب المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض أهمية خاصة في إدارة العلاقة بين الرئاسة الأمريكية ووسائل الإعلام، إذ تتولى شاغلته نقل مواقف الرئيس والإدارة بشأن الملفات الداخلية والخارجية، والرد على أسئلة الصحفيين، وتوضيح القرارات والسياسات في ظل الأزمات والتطورات السياسية.
ومن المتوقع أن تواجه زاكاريا اختباراً إعلامياً في التعامل مع القضايا الخلافية التي تطرحها إدارة ترمب، في وقت تتسم فيه العلاقة بين الرئيس الأمريكي وقطاعات من وسائل الإعلام بالتوتر، وسط انقسامات سياسية حادة بشأن سياسات الإدارة ومواقفها الداخلية والخارجية.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the appointment of conservative commentator Katie Zakaria as the new spokesperson for the White House, succeeding Caroline Levitt, who left the position last August, in a move that brings the administration's media communication back to the forefront.
Trump said on Friday via his platform "Truth Social": "It is a great honor for me to appoint Katie Zakaria as the White House Press Secretary," expressing his confidence in her ability to achieve strong results, and affirming that she is respected by the media, the American people, and his administration.
The U.S. President praised Zakaria, describing her as a loyal supporter of his from the beginning, noting her involvement in his election campaigns and her contributions in key swing states. He also thanked Levitt, whom he said did an excellent job during her tenure.
Zakaria belongs to the conservative pro-Trump movement and the "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) movement, and has frequently appeared in conservative media, including "Fox News" and "Newsmax," to defend the Republican president's policies and the positions of his administration.
Zakaria holds a degree in political science and government, along with a law degree from Pepperdine University and its Caruso School of Law. She previously served as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and has held positions in both the political and media fields, including working as a senior communications advisor at the Trump Media and Technology Group, which manages the "Truth Social" platform.
Her appointment comes after Levitt left her position at the end of August, after announcing her desire to dedicate more time to her family. Levitt had taken on the role at the beginning of Trump's second term and became one of the prominent media faces of the administration, through her press briefings and frequent confrontations with journalists inside the White House.
The position of White House spokesperson carries special importance in managing the relationship between the U.S. presidency and the media, as the occupant is responsible for conveying the president's and the administration's positions on domestic and foreign issues, responding to journalists' questions, and clarifying decisions and policies amid crises and political developments.
Zakaria is expected to face a media test in dealing with the controversial issues raised by the Trump administration, at a time when the relationship between the U.S. president and sectors of the media is tense, amid sharp political divisions regarding the administration's policies and its domestic and foreign positions.
