أثار أسد جبلي شاب حالة من الاستنفار في أحد الأحياء السكنية بمدينة سان فرانسيسكو الأمريكية، بعدما شوهد يتجول بين المنازل والشوارع، قبل أن تتمكن فرق مختصة من تخديره والإمساك به وإعادته إلى البرية.
بين المنازل
وشوهد الحيوان بالقرب من تقاطع شارعي 44th Avenue وUlloa Street في حي «أوتر صنست»، على مسافة قصيرة من حديقة حيوان سان فرانسيسكو، ما دفع السلطات إلى مطالبة السكان بالابتعاد عن المنطقة أثناء التعامل معه.
وأظهرت مقاطع مصورة الأسد الجبلي وهو يتحرك بين الشوارع والشجيرات أمام المنازل، فيما فرضت الشرطة طوقاً حول المنطقة وشاركت فرق مراقبة الحيوانات ومسؤولو الحياة البرية في محاولة السيطرة عليه.
هرب بعد تخديره
وأطلق المختصون سهماً مخدراً على الحيوان، لكنه تمكن من الركض لفترة قصيرة قبل أن يبدأ المخدر مفعوله، ثم سيطرت عليه الفرق المختصة ونقلته لإجراء فحص صحي.
وأظهر الفحص أن الأسد ذكر يتراوح عمره بين عامين و3 أعوام، ويزن نحو 78 رطلاً، أي قرابة 35 كيلوغراماً، ولم تظهر عليه مشكلات صحية تمنع إعادته إلى بيئته الطبيعية.
طوق لتتبع تحركاته
وزوّد المختصون الأسد بطوق تتبع يعمل عبر الأقمار الصناعية (GPS)، لينضم إلى برنامج بحثي يدرس تحركات أسود الجبال وسلوكها، قبل إطلاقه مجدداً في منطقة برية.
ولم يتأكد المسؤولون من المكان الذي قدم منه الحيوان، إلا أن السلطات أشارت إلى احتمال وصوله من مناطق طبيعية في شبه الجزيرة المحيطة بسان فرانسيسكو.
وتعد هذه ثاني مشاهدة بارزة لأسد جبلي في سان فرانسيسكو خلال أسابيع، بعد رصد آخر بالقرب من متنزه «غولدن غيت» في وقت سابق من الشهر.
A young mountain lion sparked a state of alert in a residential neighborhood in San Francisco, USA, after being spotted wandering between homes and streets, before specialized teams were able to sedate and capture it and return it to the wild.
Between the Homes
The animal was seen near the intersection of 44th Avenue and Ulloa Street in the "Outer Sunset" neighborhood, a short distance from the San Francisco Zoo, prompting authorities to ask residents to stay away from the area while dealing with it.
Videos showed the mountain lion moving between the streets and bushes in front of homes, while police established a perimeter around the area, and animal control teams and wildlife officials participated in an effort to manage the situation.
Fled After Being Sedated
Specialists shot a tranquilizer dart at the animal, but it managed to run for a short distance before the sedative took effect, after which the specialized teams were able to control it and transport it for a health examination.
The examination revealed that the lion is a male estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old, weighing about 78 pounds, or approximately 35 kilograms, and showed no health issues that would prevent its return to its natural habitat.
Collar to Track Its Movements
The specialists equipped the lion with a satellite tracking collar (GPS), to join a research program studying the movements and behavior of mountain lions, before releasing it again in a wilderness area.
Officials have not confirmed where the animal came from, but authorities indicated the possibility that it arrived from natural areas in the peninsula surrounding San Francisco.
This marks the second notable sighting of a mountain lion in San Francisco within weeks, following another sighting near Golden Gate Park earlier in the month.
