قالت المتحدثة السابقة باسم البيت الأبيض كاتي زكريا، إن العمل مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب كان «شرفاً» لها، في أول تعليق علني لها عقب خروجها من المنصب بعد خمسة أيام فقط من توليه. وكتبت زكريا، (السبت)، عبر منصة «إكس»، في منشور أرفقته بصورة تجمعها بترمب داخل المكتب البيضاوي: «الرئيس ترمب رجل طيب ورائع وكريم ومراعٍ ومتحمس ومجتهد. أتمنى لو أن المزيد من الأمريكيين يقدرونه». وأضافت: «لن يتمكن أحد أبداً من جعل أمريكا عظيمة بالطريقة التي فعلها هو، وما زال يواصل القيام بها. كان شرفاً لي أن أعمل لصالحه».

وجاءت رسالة زكريا بعد وقت قصير من انتهاء تجربتها في منصب المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض، في واحدة من أقصر فترات تولي هذا المنصب، بعدما لم تتجاوز مدة عملها خمسة أيام، وسط انتقادات إعلامية وتساؤلات بشأن مؤهلاتها المهنية وأدائها في أول إحاطة صحفية لها.

وكانت زكريا قد ظهرت للمرة الأولى أمام الصحفيين في البيت الأبيض (الثلاثاء) الماضي، في إحاطة استمرت نحو 14 دقيقة، وتلقت خلالها أسئلة من ثلاثة صحفيين فقط قبل إنهائها، في خطوة أثارت انتقادات بشأن استعدادها للتعامل مع وسائل الإعلام ودورها في نقل مواقف الإدارة الأمريكية والإجابة عن أسئلة الصحفيين.

كما واجهت تساؤلات بشأن خلفيتها القانونية، بعدما أقرت بأنها لم تجتز امتحان مزاولة المحاماة في ولاية كاليفورنيا، وهو ما أثار جدلاً بشأن تقديمها باعتبارها محامية، رغم حصولها على شهادة في القانون.

وقبل مغادرتها المنصب، دافعت زكريا عن أدائها خلال الإحاطة الأولى، مشيرة إلى ضيق الوقت المتاح لها للاستعداد، إذ لم تحصل على مواد الإحاطة إلا قبل ظهورها بساعات، كما أوضحت أن قصر المؤتمر كان مرتبطاً، من وجهة نظرها، بترتيبات تتعلق بجدول الرئيس الأمريكي.

من جانبه، قال ترمب، (الجمعة)، إنه نصح زكريا بإعادة النظر في الاستمرار بالمنصب، معتبراً أنها تعرضت لمعاملة قاسية من وسائل الإعلام، وأن الضغوط المصاحبة للوظيفة قد تحول دون شعورها بالسعادة.

وأوضح ترمب، للصحفيين قبيل مغادرته إلى ولاية جورجيا، أنه قال لها: «بصراحة، لو كنت مكانك، لأعدت النظر في الأمر.. يا كاتي، هل أنت بحاجة إلى هذا؟ لا أعتقد أنك بحاجة إليه».

ووصف الرئيس الأمريكي زكريا بأنها «شخص لطيف»، مؤكداً أنه لا يريد لها أن تعاني من الضغوط الإعلامية، وأنه ترك لها في البداية حرية اتخاذ القرار قبل انتهاء مهمتها رسمياً.

وكان ترمب قد أعلن تعيين زكريا في المنصب خلفاً لكارولين ليفيت، التي غادرت البيت الأبيض في أغسطس الماضي، بعدما عملت زكريا في مجال الاتصالات السياسية، وشغلت أدواراً إعلامية، من بينها العمل متحدثة باسم وزارة الأمن الداخلي، إلى جانب ارتباطها بشركة «ترمب ميديا».

Former White House spokesperson Katie Zakaria said that working with U.S. President Donald Trump was a "privilege" for her, in her first public comment after leaving the position just five days into his term. Zakaria wrote on Saturday via the "X" platform, in a post accompanied by a photo of her with Trump in the Oval Office: "President Trump is a kind, wonderful, generous, considerate, enthusiastic, and hardworking man. I wish more Americans appreciated him." She added, "No one will ever be able to make America great the way he did, and he continues to do so. It was an honor for me to work for him."

Zakaria's message came shortly after her brief experience as White House spokesperson, one of the shortest tenures in the position, as her time in office lasted only five days amid media criticism and questions about her professional qualifications and performance in her first press briefing.

Zakaria made her first appearance before reporters at the White House last Tuesday, in a briefing that lasted about 14 minutes, during which she took questions from only three journalists before concluding, a move that sparked criticism regarding her readiness to handle the media and her role in conveying the U.S. administration's positions and answering journalists' questions.

She also faced questions about her legal background after admitting that she had not passed the bar exam in California, which raised controversy over her being presented as a lawyer, despite holding a law degree.

Before leaving the position, Zakaria defended her performance during the first briefing, noting the limited time she had to prepare, as she did not receive the briefing materials until just hours before her appearance. She explained that the brevity of the conference was, in her view, related to arrangements concerning the U.S. President's schedule.

For his part, Trump said on Friday that he advised Zakaria to reconsider continuing in the position, considering that she had been treated harshly by the media and that the pressures associated with the job might prevent her from feeling happy.

Trump explained to reporters before departing for Georgia that he told her, "Honestly, if I were you, I would reconsider... Katie, do you need this? I don't think you need it."

The U.S. President described Zakaria as a "nice person," emphasizing that he did not want her to suffer from media pressures and that he initially left her the freedom to make the decision before her official term ended.

Trump had announced Zakaria's appointment to the position following Caroline Levitt, who left the White House last August, after Zakaria worked in political communications and held media roles, including serving as spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, in addition to her association with "Trump Media."
