كشف مسؤولون أمريكيون اليوم (الخميس) عن خطط للسيطرة على جزيرة خارك الإيرانية، مؤكدين أنها أُرجئت مراراً نظراً لما تنطوي عليه من مخاطر عالية.

وقال مسؤول كبير في وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (البنتاغون)، إلى جانب مسؤولين في الإدارة الأمريكية، لشبكة «سي إن إن»، إن البنتاغون وضع منذ أشهر خططاً للسيطرة على جزيرة خارك الإيرانية، التي تعد شرياناً حيوياً لصادرات النفط الإيرانية، إلا أن هذه الخطط أُرجئت مراراً بسبب المخاطر الكبيرة التي تنطوي عليها العملية.

وأوضح المسؤولون أن التقدير السائد داخل البيت الأبيض والبنتاغون هو أن السيطرة على جزيرة خارك، أو تدمير البنية التحتية للطاقة فيها، من شأنه أن يؤدي فعلياً إلى شل الاقتصاد الإيراني وتقليص قدرات طهران إلى حد يمنعها من مواصلة الحرب.

وأضافوا أنهم أبلغوا الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بأن مثل هذه العملية ستتطلب على الأرجح أعداداً كبيرة من القوات البرية، وقد تؤدي إلى خسائر بشرية كبيرة في صفوف القوات الأمريكية.

وأشار المسؤولون إلى أن البيت الأبيض والبنتاغون اعتبرا، بناءً على هذه التقديرات، أن أي تحرك للسيطرة على جزيرة خارك يمثل خيار المرحلة النهائية أو «الملاذ الأخير»، وقد يغير موازين الحرب، لكنه يأتي بكلفة مرتفعة للغاية.

ولفتوا إلى أن الجيش الأمريكي نفذ سابقاً عدة غارات جوية واسعة على منشآت عسكرية في جزيرة خارك، إلا أن تلك الهجمات تجنبت عمداً استهداف البنية التحتية الحيوية للطاقة في الجزيرة.

من جهته، نقل موقع «أكسيوس» عن مسؤولين أمريكيين قولهم إن تهديد ترمب المتجدد بقصف إيران يهدف إلى زيادة الضغط على طهران لإبداء مزيد من المرونة في المفاوضات المتعلقة ببرنامجها النووي.

وكان ترمب قد قال لشبكة «فوكس نيوز»: «نحن لا نضرب إيران بما يكفي حتى الآن»، مضيفاً: «أفضل الاستيلاء على جزيرة خارك، لكنني لست متأكداً».

وأشار إلى أنه غير محْبَط بشأن إيران، معتبراً أن الاتفاق المحتمل قد يكون «أعظم اتفاق في التاريخ»، متوعداً بتوجيه ضربات قاسية لإيران إذا فشلت في توقيع اتفاق.

وأضاف: «انتهى أمر إيران، ويمكننا إدخال قواتنا غداً، لكنني لا أريد إرسال قوات برية».

American officials revealed today (Thursday) plans to seize the Iranian island of Khark, confirming that these plans have been postponed multiple times due to the high risks involved.

A senior official at the U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon), along with officials from the U.S. administration, told CNN that the Pentagon has had plans for months to take control of the Iranian island of Khark, which is a vital artery for Iranian oil exports. However, these plans have been repeatedly postponed due to the significant risks associated with the operation.

The officials explained that the prevailing assessment within the White House and the Pentagon is that taking control of Khark Island, or destroying its energy infrastructure, would effectively cripple the Iranian economy and reduce Tehran's capabilities to a level that would prevent it from continuing the war.

They added that they informed President Donald Trump that such an operation would likely require large numbers of ground troops and could result in significant casualties among U.S. forces.

The officials noted that the White House and the Pentagon considered, based on these assessments, that any move to seize Khark Island represents a final option or "last resort," which could change the dynamics of the war but comes at an extremely high cost.

They pointed out that the U.S. military has previously conducted several extensive airstrikes on military facilities in Khark Island, but those attacks deliberately avoided targeting the island's vital energy infrastructure.

For its part, Axios reported that U.S. officials said Trump's renewed threat to bomb Iran aims to increase pressure on Tehran to show more flexibility in negotiations regarding its nuclear program.

Trump had told Fox News: "We are not hitting Iran hard enough yet," adding, "I would prefer to seize Khark Island, but I'm not sure."

He indicated that he is not frustrated regarding Iran, considering that a potential agreement could be "the greatest deal in history," threatening to deliver severe strikes against Iran if it fails to sign an agreement.

He added: "Iran is finished, and we can send our troops in tomorrow, but I don't want to send ground troops."
