أكد النجم المصري عمر مرموش أن منتخب بلاده لن يكتفي بالظهور المشرف في بطولة كأس العالم 2026.
ويقع المنتخب المصري في المجموعة السابعة ببطولة كأس العالم 2026 التي ستنطلق منافساتها اليوم (الخميس)، إلى جانب منتخبات بلجيكا وإيران ونيوزيلندا.
مصر ستنافس على لقب المونديال
وقال مرموش في حوار مع مجلة نادي مانشستر سيتي: «المشاركة في كأس العالم أمر عظيم بالنسبة لنا، ولكن كما قلت من قبل، وسأكررها مرة أخرى، لن نكتفي باللعب في المونديال فحسب، بل سننافس على البطولة».
وأضاف: «بالطبع يجب أن نكون واقعيين؛ فنحن نلعب ضد بعض من أفضل المنتخبات في العالم، والمستويات التي سنواجهها مرتفعة للغاية، لكننا لن نذهب ونحن نفكر أننا سنلعب ثلاث مباريات فقط ثم نغادر، بإذن الله سننجح، وسنحاول تجاوز دور المجموعات ثم نخوض كل مباراة على حدة».
وتابع نجم مانشستر سيتي ومنتخب مصر: «طموحاتنا عالية، والثقة بين اللاعبين عالية جداً، ونأمل أن نتمكن من فعل شيء مميز ورفع اسم مصر عالياً، نريد أن نظهر بصورة جيدة، ويمكننا أن نحلم بالفوز بالبطولة أيضاً أو الوصول إلى مراحل متقدمة، لن نكتفي بصناعة اسم لأنفسنا فقط، وبفضل اللاعبين الذين نمتلكهم والفريق والجودة المتوفرة، وبصفتنا المنتخب الوطني المصري، فنحن من أفضل فرق أفريقيا».
مزاملة صلاح في المنتخب
وحول مزاملته لمحمد صلاح في المنتخب المصري، قال: «عندما نكون مع المنتخب المصري نحاول المزاح في ما بيننا لتخفيف التوتر، الجو العام يدور حول كرة القدم، والفكرة الأساسية أن حياتنا تتمحور حولها، لذلك عندما ننضم للمنتخب، نتحدث عن كرة القدم، لكننا نحاول الفصل بين ذلك وبين المباريات والمزاح حول أمور أخرى، وبالطبع، محمد صلاح، بكل ما حققه من إنجازات وتاريخ، لا يزال يقدم أداءً قوياً، أشعر أن الشعب المصري فخور بنا نحن الاثنين».
رفض تمثيل كندا
وعن محاولة كندا تجنيسه في وقت سابق، أجاب: «لم أزر كندا إلا في مناسبات قليلة، وعلى الرغم من الفرصة كان قلبي متعلقاً باللعب لمصر، شعرت بارتباط قوي بجذوري وأردت تمثيل الفراعنة».
The Egyptian star Omar Marmoush confirmed that his national team will not settle for just a respectable appearance in the 2026 World Cup.
The Egyptian team is in Group G of the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off today (Thursday), alongside teams from Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.
Egypt will compete for the World Cup title
Marmoush said in an interview with Manchester City’s magazine: “Participating in the World Cup is a great thing for us, but as I said before, and I will repeat it again, we will not settle for just playing in the World Cup; we will compete for the title.”
He added: “Of course, we must be realistic; we are playing against some of the best teams in the world, and the levels we will face are very high, but we will not go thinking that we will play just three matches and then leave. God willing, we will succeed, and we will try to get past the group stage and then take each match as it comes.”
The Manchester City star and Egyptian national team player continued: “Our ambitions are high, and the confidence among the players is very strong. We hope to do something special and raise Egypt's name high. We want to present ourselves well, and we can dream of winning the tournament or reaching advanced stages. We will not settle for just making a name for ourselves. Thanks to the players we have, the team, and the quality available, as the Egyptian national team, we are among the best teams in Africa.”
Playing alongside Salah in the national team
Regarding playing alongside Mohamed Salah in the Egyptian national team, he said: “When we are with the Egyptian national team, we try to joke with each other to relieve tension. The overall atmosphere revolves around football, and the main idea is that our lives center around it. So when we join the national team, we talk about football, but we try to separate that from the matches and joke about other things. And of course, Mohamed Salah, with all his achievements and history, is still performing strongly. I feel that the Egyptian people are proud of both of us.”
Refusal to represent Canada
About Canada’s attempt to naturalize him earlier, he replied: “I have only visited Canada on a few occasions, and despite the opportunity, my heart was attached to playing for Egypt. I felt a strong connection to my roots and wanted to represent the Pharaohs.”
