أكد رئيس الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم السابق أحمد عيد أن بطولات كأس الخليج العربي لعبت على امتداد تاريخها دوراً مهماً في إبراز الكفاءات الرياضية والفنية والإعلامية في المنطقة، مشيراً إلى أن البطولة شهدت تحولات كبيرة منذ انطلاقتها الأولى، وصولاً إلى ما تحظى به اليوم من حضور جماهيري وإعلامي ورقمي واسع.

وقال عيد لـ«عكاظ»: «أجمل ما في دورات الخليج بالنسبة لي شخصياً أنني عشتها لاعباً، وكانت فرصة لتقديم صورة حضارية عن كرة القدم في المملكة العربية السعودية منذ تلك السنوات. البطولة الأولى كانت بالنسبة لي فاتحة خير للاستمرار في مسيرتي، إذ جاءت مبارياتي الدولية الأولى ضمن الاستعداد لبطولة الخليج، ومن هناك تواصلت مسيرتي».

وأضاف: «اليوم الوضع مختلف، ومن موقعي كمسؤول سابق كنت أحرص، وما زلت، على قيمة التجمعات الشبابية الجميلة في دورات الخليج، إذ أسهمت هذه التجمعات في إبراز الكثير من الكفاءات في المنطقة، سواء الفنية أو الرياضية أو الإعلامية».

وأشار عيد إلى التطور الكبير الذي شهدته البطولة على مستوى التغطية الإعلامية والإمكانات الفنية، قائلاً: «اليوم، بحسب الرصد، أكثر من 164 قناة أسهمت في نقل البطولة، والإمكانات الفنية ارتفعت، والحضور الإعلامي تميز، كما أصبح للحضور في الملعب بصمته، ومع الإعلام الحديث والإعلام الرقمي تحولت البطولة إلى بطولة واعدة بمستقبل كبير، بإذن الله».

وعن عودة كأس الخليج إلى جدة، أكد عيد أن إقامة البطولة في المدينة تحمل بالنسبة إليه دلالة خاصة، وقال: «عندما كنت مسؤولاً حرصت على أن تقام البطولة في جدة، والحمد لله تحقق هذا الهدف. جدة مدينة حالمة وشغف كرة القدم فيها عالٍ جداً، وهي بوابة لكرة القدم وبوابة لمكة المكرمة التي شهدت تأسيس الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم وتسجيله في الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم».

واختتم رئيس الاتحاد السعودي السابق حديثه لـ«عكاظ» قائلاً: «الكل سعيد بعودة التاريخ إلى هذه المدينة الجميلة، وأسأل الله سبحانه وتعالى أن تكون هذه البطولة من خير البطولات التي أقيمت في الخليج العربي».

The former president of the Saudi Football Federation, Ahmed Eid, confirmed that the Gulf Cup tournaments have played an important role throughout their history in showcasing sports, artistic, and media talents in the region, noting that the tournament has witnessed significant transformations since its inception, leading to the wide audience, media, and digital presence it enjoys today.

Eid told "Okaz": "The best thing about the Gulf tournaments for me personally is that I experienced them as a player, and it was an opportunity to present a civilized image of football in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since those years. The first tournament was, for me, a good omen to continue my career, as my first international matches came in preparation for the Gulf Cup, and from there my journey continued."

He added: "Today, the situation is different, and from my position as a former official, I was keen, and still am, on the value of beautiful youth gatherings in the Gulf tournaments, as these gatherings have contributed to showcasing many talents in the region, whether artistic, athletic, or media-related."

Eid pointed to the significant development the tournament has seen in terms of media coverage and technical capabilities, saying: "Today, according to monitoring, more than 164 channels contributed to broadcasting the tournament, the technical capabilities have increased, and the media presence has distinguished itself, as the presence in the stadium has its own mark. With modern media and digital media, the tournament has transformed into a promising event with a great future, God willing."

Regarding the return of the Gulf Cup to Jeddah, Eid confirmed that holding the tournament in the city holds a special significance for him, saying: "When I was in charge, I was keen to hold the tournament in Jeddah, and thankfully this goal was achieved. Jeddah is a dream city, and the passion for football there is very high. It is a gateway to football and a gateway to Mecca, which witnessed the establishment of the Saudi Football Federation and its registration with FIFA."

The former president of the Saudi Federation concluded his remarks to "Okaz" by saying: "Everyone is happy with the return of history to this beautiful city, and I ask God Almighty that this tournament be one of the best tournaments held in the Arabian Gulf."
