In the depths of space, approximately 140 light-years from Earth, a mysterious celestial body has caught the attention of astronomers, after observation data indicated the possibility of a massive planet orbiting within the habitable zone of a very hot and bright star. If confirmed, this discovery could represent an unprecedented case of its kind.

According to a recent study published in The Astrophysical Journal, the candidate body is named HD 156295 b, and it is believed to orbit a type A star with a temperature of about 7500 degrees Celsius, while its brightness reaches nearly nine times that of the Sun.

Researchers estimate that the mass of the potential planet could be about six times that of Jupiter, while it is located approximately four astronomical units from its star, requiring around 2200 days to complete a full orbit.

Although the host star is hotter and brighter than the Sun, the large distance separating the planet from it means that it may receive only about 60% of the amount of radiation that reaches Earth from the Sun, which theoretically places it within the habitable zone; the range that could allow for the presence of water if the right conditions are met.

Initial indications came after analyzing data from about 16,500 stars observed by NASA's TESS satellite.

The research team relied on a technique known as stellar pulse timing, benefiting from the nature of the host star, which belongs to the delta Scuti variable stars, which experience regular changes in brightness.

By tracking the subtle differences in the timing of these pulses, researchers were able to detect signals that could be caused by the gravitational influence of a body orbiting the star, which reinforced the hypothesis of the candidate planet's existence.

However, despite these indications, HD 156295 b is still far from being a confirmed discovery, as researchers estimate the likelihood of it being a real planet at only about 50%, meaning that further observations are needed to verify its nature and existence.

If confirmed, it could become the first known planet within the habitable zone around a massive type A star, which would give it special significance in the study of planets orbiting stars that are hotter and brighter than our Sun.
