تمكن شاب يبلغ 22 عاماً من خداع موظفي مستشفى «أبردين الملكي» في إسكتلندا لأسابيع، بعدما انتحل صفة طالب طب وارتدى ملابس طبية تحمل شعار هيئة الخدمات الصحية، وحمل سماعة وجهاز نداء، ما أتاح له دخول مناطق محظورة والاطلاع على ملفات طبية خاصة بالمرضى.

واعترف ستيفن سيمبسون أمام محكمة أبردين، الخميس، بالاحتيال خلال الفترة من 9 ديسمبر 2023 حتى 26 يناير 2024، بعدما أقنع موظفين بأنه طالب طب مخول بالوجود داخل المستشفى.

دخول مناطق محظورة

وبحسب تفاصيل القضية، سمح انتحاله للصفة الطبية بالبقاء داخل المستشفى والوصول إلى مناطق مخصصة للموظفين وأجنحة المرضى وملفات طبية ومراسلات سرية، مستفيداً من مظهره والملابس الطبية والسماعة وجهاز النداء الذي كان يحمله.

ولم تتوقف الواقعة عند انتحال الصفة، إذ اعترف أيضاً بسرقة ملابس تحمل شعار هيئة الخدمات الصحية وجهاز نداء وزجاجة عطر من داخل المستشفى.

أسابيع داخل المستشفى

واستمرت عملية الاحتيال نحو سبعة أسابيع قبل اكتشافها، فيما كانت التهمة الأصلية تشير إلى فترة أطول قبل أن يقبل الادعاء إقراراً بتهمتين معدلتين تتعلقان بالاحتيال والسرقة.

وقررت المحكمة تأجيل النطق بالحكم إلى وقت لاحق من أكتوبر، لحين إعداد تقرير اجتماعي وتقييم إمكانية فرض قيود على حريته.

وأكدت هيئة الخدمات الصحية في غرامبيان أن الحفاظ على أمن المستشفيات والتحقق من الهويات مسؤولية مشتركة بين العاملين، بعد القضية التي أثارت تساؤلات حول كيفية تمكن شخص غير مخول من الوصول إلى مناطق وبيانات حساسة.

A 22-year-old man managed to deceive staff at the "Aberdeen Royal" hospital in Scotland for weeks, after impersonating a medical student and wearing medical clothing bearing the logo of the health services authority, carrying a stethoscope and a pager, which allowed him to enter restricted areas and access confidential medical files of patients.

Stephen Simpson admitted in Aberdeen court on Thursday to fraud during the period from December 9, 2023, to January 26, 2024, after convincing staff that he was a medical student authorized to be inside the hospital.

Accessing Restricted Areas

According to the details of the case, his impersonation allowed him to remain inside the hospital and access areas designated for staff, patient wards, medical files, and confidential correspondence, benefiting from his appearance, the medical clothing, the stethoscope, and the pager he carried.

The incident did not stop at impersonation, as he also admitted to stealing clothing bearing the logo of the health services authority, a pager, and a bottle of perfume from inside the hospital.

Weeks Inside the Hospital

The fraud lasted for about seven weeks before being discovered, while the original charge referred to a longer period before the prosecution accepted a plea to two amended charges related to fraud and theft.

The court decided to postpone the sentencing until later in October, pending the preparation of a social report and an assessment of the possibility of imposing restrictions on his freedom.

The health services authority in Grampian confirmed that maintaining hospital security and verifying identities is a shared responsibility among staff, following the case that raised questions about how an unauthorized person managed to access sensitive areas and data.
