Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca defended his club after it was found guilty of breaching the financial rules of the Premier League.

The English Premier League had previously announced that an independent panel concluded that Manchester City was guilty of all charges related to serious violations of financial rules over nine seasons, through the use of "sham" sponsorship contracts as part of arrangements aimed at inflating revenues and reducing costs by more than £900 million, but the club appealed the decision.

"City's titles are not tainted"

In response to a question during the press conference before the match against Liverpool in the Premier League, regarding whether Manchester City's titles are tainted by corruption, Maresca said: "Absolutely not."

He added: "I understand why most of you are here, but the only thing I can say is what I said before, the case is still ongoing, and I want to talk about this matter when we win the appeal."

Maresca trusts his club's management

The Italian coach continued: "I spoke with the club's management, and we all trusted each other. The right time to talk is when we win this appeal. Right now, there is no point in discussing this matter because I don't have the information."

Maresca, who took over as Manchester City coach at the beginning of the current season following Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, explained: "The reason that led me to join this club is that I completely trust 100% the owner, the CEO, the sporting director, and everyone working here."

Shocking penalties threaten City

If the conviction is upheld, Manchester City could face penalties including a financial fine, points deduction, or a ban on making transfers, while the worst-case scenario would be expulsion from the Premier League.
