The Italian Simone Inzaghi, coach of Al-Hilal, expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance against Al-Ittihad, confirming that his players were capable of scoring six goals, and pointing out that the penalty that reduced Al-Ittihad's deficit to 3-2 might not have been correct.
Inzaghi said, in response to a question from "Okaz" regarding the timing of the substitutions and their impact on Al-Hilal's control during the second half: "Football is governed by details and different situations, and as I mentioned earlier, the penalty that made the score 3-2 might not have been correct. We could have scored more than three goals, but I am very happy with the level the players presented, and I believe Al-Hilal's fans are also happy with what they saw."
The Italian coach clarified that Al-Hilal achieved a deserved victory against a strong competitor in the standings, which had previously achieved remarkable results, praising the effort his players put in despite the short preparation period for the match.
He added: "We had a satisfactory match in both the first and second halves, and we scored three goals, but we could have scored six goals considering the chances we created."
Inzaghi pointed out that Al-Hilal suffered in some matches last season from retreating after taking the lead, explaining that the team maintained its level and focus against Al-Ittihad throughout both halves of the match, which enhanced his satisfaction with the overall performance.
Regarding his enthusiastic celebration of the third goal, Inzaghi explained that his team missed four scoring opportunities, in addition to a disallowed goal and a shot that hit the crossbar, while the score remained at 2-1 despite Al-Hilal's superiority, noting that he felt his players deserved to lead by three goals, which prompted him to celebrate passionately after scoring the third goal.
As for the captain's armband, the Al-Hilal coach stated that he prefers to give it to one of the Saudi players, indicating that the team has important local elements, including Salem Al-Dawsari, Mohammed Kanno, Nasser Al-Dawsari, and Al-Owais, who represent great value for the group.
Inzaghi addressed the protest of Portuguese player Ruben Neves against the referee, praising the player's performance, but emphasized the need to avoid dissent after he received a yellow card for protesting, and another for committing a foul, confirming the importance of adhering to the refereeing instructions.
He indicated that Nasser Al-Dawsari was the player authorized to speak with the referee during the match, before the captain's armband was passed to Mohammed Kanno after he entered the game, affirming that the coaching staff will continue to rely on a Saudi captain, while it is necessary to educate foreign players about the instructions that limit communication with the referee to the team captain, to avoid unnecessary cards.
