The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi considered that the proposal previously submitted by Tehran through intermediaries to the United States, which involves opening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, is still on the table.
He stated in remarks to local media today (Sunday) that Washington's acceptance of Tehran's conditions would mean opening the strait within six days and resuming talks on the seventh day. Araghchi claimed that Washington had obstructed the diplomatic path and caused a threat to navigation security in Hormuz.
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his rejection of this proposal, affirming that he was no longer interested in the matter after U.S. forces managed to secure navigation and ship movement in this important waterway, as he put it. Despite this public rejection, intermediaries continued their efforts to bridge the differences in order to reach an agreement that would end the conflict that erupted on February 28, which led to significant paralysis in this vital strait. Meanwhile, the United States continued its suffocating blockade of Iranian ports and imposed further sanctions.
It is worth noting that the revised proposal that Tehran had submitted, which was largely described as similar to the initial agreement that collapsed between the two parties after being signed last June, stipulated lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, unfreezing Iranian assets abroad, and halting hostilities on all fronts in exchange for opening Hormuz to ship movement.
