في تصعيد جديد للمواجهة بين الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب والنائبة الديمقراطية إلهان عمر، عادت الأخيرة إلى الواجهة عبر مقطع فيديو نشرته على «تيك توك»، طالبت فيه أنصارها بمواصلة التبرع لحملتها الانتخابية، مؤكدة أنها لن تسمح بترهيبها أو إسكاتها، وذلك بعد أيام من مداهمة منزلها من قبل عملاء اتحاديين في إطار تحقيق يتعلق بأوراق هجرتها وجنسيتها الأمريكية.
ودعت عمر مؤيديها إلى تقديم تبرعات بقيمة 5 أو 10 أو 20 دولاراً، قائلة إن المرحلة المقبلة ستكون «مكلفة وصعبة»، في ظل ما وصفته بمحاولات إدارة ترمب ترهيبها وترهيب آخرين قبيل انتخابات التجديد النصفي للكونغرس. وشكرت المتبرعين الذين ساندوها، مؤكدة عزمها مواصلة حملتها والعمل على فوز الديمقراطيين بأغلبية مجلسي النواب والشيوخ ومحاسبة الإدارة الأمريكية.
وظهرت النائبة في الفيديو، المصوّر من داخل سيارة، في أول تحرك علني لافت بعد المداهمة، وسط تصاعد الجدل السياسي والقانوني المحيط بها. فيما ركزت رسالتها على حشد الدعم المالي والسياسي لمواجهة المرحلة المقبلة.
ترمب يصعّد.. والسجن على الطاولة
في المقابل، صعّد ترمب هجومه على النائبة ذات الأصول الصومالية، ووجّه إليها انتقادات شخصية حادة، واصفاً إياها بأنها شخصية سيئة ولا تحب الولايات المتحدة، ومشككاً في البلد الذي جاءت منه، في إشارة إلى الصومال. كما أشار إلى احتمال ترحيلها، ولوّح بإمكانية أن ينتهي بها المطاف في السجن.
وكان ترمب قد هاجم عمر عقب مداهمة منزلها، ورفض تأييد موقف محدد بشأن ترحيلها، لكنه وصفها بأنها نائبة سيئة ولا يعتقد أنها تحب بلادها. وفي تصريحات لاحقة، قال إنها قد تواجه السجن، في وقت تتواصل التحقيقات المتعلقة بملف هجرتها وجنسيتها.
وتأتي هذه التصريحات في سياق خلاف ممتد بين ترمب وعمر، التي تُعد من أبرز منتقدي سياساته، خصوصاً في ملفات الهجرة والتعامل مع المهاجرين والمسلمين. وسبق أن دعا ترمب إلى إعادتها إلى الصومال، بينما اتهمته النائبة باستهدافها سياسياً وباستخدام خطاب عدائي ضدها وضد الجالية الصومالية في الولايات المتحدة.
تحقيق في أوراق الهجرة والجنسية
وكان عملاء اتحاديون قد داهموا منزل عمر في منطقة واشنطن في 12 أكتوبر الجاري، ضمن تحقيق يتعلق بمعلومات ووثائق قُدمت خلال إجراءات هجرتها وحصولها على الجنسية الأمريكية.
وبحسب تقارير إعلامية أمريكية، يبحث التحقيق في شبهات تتعلق بصحة بعض البيانات المقدمة خلال إجراءات الهجرة والتجنيس، فيما أشارت تقارير إلى أن التحقيق قد يفتح الباب أمام بحث إجراءات قانونية تتعلق بجنسيتها وإمكانية ترحيلها، إذا توافرت الأسس القانونية لذلك.
ووصلت عمر إلى الولايات المتحدة لاجئة من الصومال عام 1995، وحصلت على الجنسية الأمريكية عام 2000، قبل انتخابها عضوة في مجلس النواب عن ولاية مينيسوتا عام 2018، لتصبح أول أمريكية من أصول صومالية تصل إلى الكونغرس.
ونفت عمر ارتكاب أي مخالفات، ووصفت مداهمة منزلها بأنها محاولة للترهيب السياسي وتوظيف أجهزة إنفاذ القانون ضد خصوم الإدارة، مؤكدة أنها لن تصمت أمام ما تعتبره استهدافاً لها.
ولم يكن قد أُعلن عن توجيه اتهامات جنائية إليها في التقارير المنشورة بشأن المداهمة، فيما أثار توقيت التحقيق، قبل أسابيع من انتخابات التجديد النصفي، جدلاً بشأن الفصل بين الإجراءات القانونية والتجاذبات السياسية.

In a new escalation of the confrontation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, the latter returned to the spotlight through a video she posted on TikTok, urging her supporters to continue donating to her campaign, asserting that she would not allow herself to be intimidated or silenced, just days after federal agents raided her home as part of an investigation related to her immigration papers and American citizenship.
Omar called on her supporters to make donations of $5, $10, or $20, stating that the upcoming phase would be "costly and difficult," amid what she described as attempts by the Trump administration to intimidate her and others ahead of the midterm congressional elections. She thanked the donors who supported her, reaffirming her determination to continue her campaign and work towards a Democratic majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as holding the U.S. administration accountable.
The representative appeared in the video, filmed from inside a car, in her first notable public move after the raid, amid rising political and legal controversy surrounding her. Her message focused on rallying financial and political support to face the upcoming phase.
Trump Escalates... and Jail is on the Table
In contrast, Trump intensified his attack on the Somali-American representative, directing sharp personal criticisms at her, describing her as a bad person who does not love the United States, and questioning the country she came from, referring to Somalia. He also hinted at the possibility of her deportation, suggesting that she could end up in jail.
Trump had attacked Omar following the raid on her home, refusing to endorse a specific stance on her deportation, but labeled her as a bad representative and stated that he does not believe she loves her country. In later statements, he said she could face jail time, as investigations related to her immigration and citizenship status continue.
These statements come amid an ongoing dispute between Trump and Omar, who is considered one of his most prominent critics, especially on issues of immigration and the treatment of immigrants and Muslims. Trump has previously called for her to be sent back to Somalia, while Omar has accused him of politically targeting her and using hostile rhetoric against her and the Somali community in the United States.
Investigation into Immigration and Citizenship Papers
Federal agents raided Omar's home in the Washington area on October 12, as part of an investigation concerning information and documents submitted during her immigration and naturalization process.
According to American media reports, the investigation is looking into suspicions regarding the accuracy of some data provided during the immigration and naturalization procedures, while reports indicated that the investigation could open the door to legal proceedings regarding her citizenship and the possibility of her deportation, if legal grounds for that are established.
Omar arrived in the United States as a refugee from Somalia in 1995 and obtained American citizenship in 2000, before being elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Minnesota in 2018, becoming the first American of Somali descent to reach Congress.
Omar has denied any wrongdoing, describing the raid on her home as an attempt at political intimidation and the use of law enforcement agencies against administration opponents, asserting that she will not remain silent in the face of what she considers targeting her.
No criminal charges against her had been announced in the published reports regarding the raid, while the timing of the investigation, just weeks before the midterm elections, has raised questions about the separation between legal proceedings and political maneuvering.
A Battle Beyond the Representative
The current confrontation goes beyond the personal dispute between Trump and Ilhan Omar, touching on issues of immigration, citizenship, and the limits of using law enforcement agencies in dealing with opposing political figures. While the Trump administration insists on the necessity of investigating any suspicions related to obtaining citizenship, Omar and her allies argue that the timing of the actions and the context of the repeated attacks on her raise questions about their motives.
As the midterm elections approach, Omar is working to rally her supporters and secure financial backing for her campaign, while Trump continues to escalate against her.
