بعد غياب استمر لأكثر من عقد كامل، عادت قصة الأخوة إلى ساحة الكرة السعودية من جديد، حين وقع الاختيار على التوأم محمد وصالح أبو الشامات في افتتاح بطولة خليجي 27 أمام الكويت، ليكتبا فصلاً جديداً لا يُنسى في تاريخ "الأخضر".

لم يحدث أن تواجد شقيقان معاً في التشكيلة الأساسية للمنتخب السعودي منذ 11 سبتمبر 2012، حين حمل القميص الأخضر معاً معتز وكامل الموسى تحت قيادة الهولندي فرانك ريكارد. ومنذ ذلك اليوم مرّت أربعة عشر عاماً كاملة، حتى جاء قرار المدرب اليوناني جورجيوس دونيس ليُعيد المشهد بأسلوب جديد وبوجهين ينتميان لنفس العائلة.

فقد سبقهما عدد من الثنائيات التي حملت القميص الدولي، ووصل بعضها إلى المشاركة معًا داخل الملعب. ويبرز محمد وهادي شريفي ضمن تلك الحالات، في 4 مباريات دولية خلال عام 2005 أمام طاجيكستان وتركمانستان وأوزبكستان وفنلندا. كما اجتمع نايف وإبراهيم هزازي بقميص المنتخب السعودي أمام البحرين عام 2008، بينما امتدت الفترة التي تزامن خلالها وجود أحمد وعبده عطيف دوليًا بين عامي 2006 و2011، وشملت مشاركتهما في استحقاقات مثل تصفيات كأس العالم 2010 وكأس آسيا 2011.

وقدمت عائلات أخرى أكثر من لاعب للمنتخب، من بينها باسم وحسام أبو داود، وكذلك عبد الله ومحمد الدعيع، اللذان حضرا ضمن قائمة السعودية في دورة الألعاب الآسيوية 1990، ولكنهما لم يجتمعا داخل الملعب أمام بنغلاديش؛ إذ بدأ عبد الله المباراة وبقي محمد بديلًا.

محمد وصالح أبو الشامات توأم جمعتهما الحياة، وفرّقتهما الأندية، ثم أعادهما المنتخب السعودي إلى المكان الذي حلم به الاثنان: ملعب واحد، وقميص واحد، وشعار واحد. إنها ليست مجرد قصة توأم في كرة القدم، بل فصل جديد من حكاية الأشقاء في تاريخ منتخبنا الوطني.

It has not happened that two brothers were together in the starting lineup of the Saudi national team since September 11, 2012, when Moataz and Kamel Al-Mousa wore the green jersey together under the leadership of Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard. Since that day, a full fourteen years have passed until the decision of Greek coach Georgios Donis brought back the scene in a new style with two faces belonging to the same family.

They were preceded by several pairs who wore the national jersey, some of whom even played together on the field. Mohamed and Hadi Sharifi stand out among those cases, having played in 4 international matches in 2005 against Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Finland. Naif and Ibrahim Hazzazi also wore the Saudi national jersey together against Bahrain in 2008, while the period during which Ahmed and Abdu Atif were both present internationally spanned from 2006 to 2011, including their participation in events like the 2010 World Cup qualifiers and the 2011 Asian Cup.

Other families have provided more than one player for the national team, including Bassem and Hossam Abu Dawood, as well as Abdullah and Mohammed Al-Deayea, who were both on the Saudi list for the 1990 Asian Games, but they did not play together on the field against Bangladesh; Abdullah started the match while Mohammed remained a substitute.

Mohamed and Saleh Abu Shamat are twins brought together by life, separated by clubs, and then reunited by the Saudi national team in the place both had dreamed of: one stadium, one jersey, and one emblem.
