While coach Scaloni decided to keep the number 10 jersey vacant until Messi's farewell match against Benin, in honor of a career associated with the most famous number in the history of the Albiceleste, the scene was different in the Portugal camp.

The Portuguese Football Federation did not wait long after Cristiano Ronaldo left the national team camp, as the official list on the UEFA website revealed that winger Rafael Leão was given the number 7 jersey for the match against Denmark, relinquishing his usual number 17, which went to Fabio Silva.

Leão's move quickly caught attention, as the number 7 had been synonymous with Ronaldo's name in the Portugal national team for years.

However, there is no official indication that Leão has become the permanent heir to the number, as Portuguese media sources confirm that the change pertains only to the match against Denmark, evidenced by the fact that UEFA's database still lists Ronaldo and Leão together with the number 7 in the general roster, and the tournament regulations do not allow leaving the number vacant in the match list.
