Today, the Saudi national team hosts its Emirati counterpart in the final of the 27th edition of the Gulf Cup of Football, which is taking place in the city of Jeddah, after a tournament that saw the early exit of the defending champion and Oman qualifying for the semifinals by drawing lots against Iraq, with the Green team reaching the final match without conceding any goals.

The match will be held at the Al-Inma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City at 9 PM local time, concluding the first edition of the Gulf Cup hosted by the city of Jeddah.

Three Victories

Our national team topped Group A with a full nine points after winning against Kuwait 1-0, Oman 3-0, and Iraq 2-0, scoring 6 goals in the three matches without conceding any goals, finishing the group stage with a six-goal difference over its competitors.

3 Titles

Saudi Arabia has three titles in the Gulf Cup, with the first title coming in the UAE in 1994, followed by the Saudi team winning its second title on home soil in 2002, before retaining the cup in the next edition hosted by Kuwait between December 2003 and January 2004. Since then, the Green team has not won the title despite reaching advanced stages multiple times, and the tournament archive shows that they were runners-up in the editions of 2009, 2010, 2014, and 2019, in addition to being runners-up in earlier editions that were held in a league format rather than through a standalone final match.

7 Goals in the First Two Matches

As for the Emirati team, seeking its third title and first since 2013, it started the tournament with a big win over Yemen 4-0, before defeating Bahrain 3-0. The team scored seven goals in the first two matches without conceding any goals, securing its qualification to the semifinals early. According to the UAE Professional League, the match against Saudi Arabia will be the fourth final the UAE has played in the Gulf Cup under the final match format.

The UAE won its first title in 2007 when it hosted the tournament and defeated Oman 1-0 in the final, before achieving its second title in Bahrain in 2013 by beating Iraq 2-1. The UAE reached the final of Gulf Cup 23, which ended in a goalless draw against Oman, before losing in the penalty shootout.
