The Yemeni government has called on the Security Council and the international community to take necessary measures to prevent the delivery of weapons, equipment, components, technology, and military expertise to the Houthi militia.
In a letter to the United Nations and the Security Council regarding the attack on Aden International Airport, it stated that the continued flow of these capabilities undermines efforts to protect international navigation and increases the risks of incidents with severe humanitarian and material consequences. It demanded the full and effective implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216 of 2015, and the enhancement of international cooperation with Yemeni institutions to protect airports, civilian facilities, and flight paths.
The legitimate government confirmed that restoring state institutions and disarming the Houthis are two fundamental demands for protecting the security of Yemen and neighboring countries and ensuring the safety of international navigation. It added in a letter regarding the attack on Aden International Airport that the continued control of armed groups over parts of Yemeni territory and their possession of capabilities used against civilians, civilian facilities, and international navigation constitutes an ongoing threat to regional security.
The government reported that its support for asserting its authority and sovereignty over all Yemeni territory, airspace, coasts, and ports remains essential for restoring stability and reducing threats to air and maritime navigation.
The Yemeni government called on the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations to condemn the attack that targeted Aden International Airport, hold those responsible accountable, and tighten the enforcement of the arms embargo imposed on the Houthis.
The government stated in a letter sent by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Saadi, to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council for October, Greece's Permanent Representative Aglaia Balta, that the attack represents a threat to the safety of regional and international civil aviation. The Houthis targeted the airport at dawn on Wednesday, October 7, with two ballistic missiles and drones, coinciding with the approach of a civilian flight for landing and the presence of aircraft, passengers, and workers at the airport, putting their safety at risk. The Yemeni representative informed the Security Council on Thursday that Aden Airport had been attacked with two ballistic missiles, one of which fell near a civilian flight, warning of the dangers of such attacks on the safety of air navigation.
