The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 43 crimes and violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians in Taiz during the past 24 hours, while a UN report warned that the situation in the governorate is "particularly concerning."

Between Intentional Killing and Random Shelling

The network reported in a statement today (Tuesday) that the violations varied between intentional killing and random shelling of residential neighborhoods, targeting homes, private vehicles, health facilities, and mosques. It confirmed that Houthi shelling in the rural areas of Taiz resulted in the death of five civilians, including a girl, in the Haesban area of the Al-Masrak district, and injured 17 others, including women and children. It noted that the militias fired 180 shells towards residential neighborhoods during the same period, causing fear and panic among the residents and damaging several homes. Among the civilian areas targeted by the Houthi militia were Bir Basha, Al-Munakh, Zaid Al-Moshki, the university, and Al-Shamasi.

Restrictions on Supply Access

These violations coincided with the suffering of the residents of Taiz city due to restrictions imposed on the access to supplies, and the sharp rise in prices of oil derivatives, water, food, and medicines, which limits families' ability to meet their daily needs and increases risks for children, the sick, the elderly, and low-income families. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that the ongoing fighting in Yemen has led to the displacement of more than 216,000 people since the beginning of August, including more than 172,000 from Taiz governorate. The UN stated that "the situation in this governorate is particularly concerning, as reports indicate that the closure of main roads hinders the movement of civilians, commercial supplies, and the delivery of humanitarian aid." It explained that the restrictions on movement and resource shortages "complicate humanitarian operations," and that rising prices of basic goods and fuel shortages threaten "the continuity of vital health and water services."

Increase in Civilian Casualties

The UN office announced an increase in civilian casualties, as according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, 54 civilians have been killed since the beginning of August, half of whom are children, and 171 others have been injured, including 107 women and children. The UN called on all parties to comply with international humanitarian law, protect civilians and civilian facilities, ensure safe movement for civilians, and guarantee safe, rapid, and unhindered access to humanitarian aid.

Renewed Clashes in Taiz and Lahij

Clashes renewed today between the Yemeni government forces and the resistance on one side, and the Houthi militias on the other, on several fronts in the governorates of Taiz and Lahij. A military source reported that nine airstrikes targeted Houthi positions in the areas of Anbian, Al-Arun, near Al-Quba, Jabal Aswad, and the Al-Mahl area. He added that four other airstrikes targeted the Milat area, destroying Houthi vehicles and resulting in the deaths and injuries of dozens, with more than 30 militia members captured.

The "Fajr Yemen" operation continues for the ninth consecutive day, aiming to regain areas under the control of Houthi militias, secure the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the surrounding strategic areas, liberate the capital Sana'a, and end the Houthi militia coup.
