أعلن وزير الدفاع الكندي ديفيد ماكغينتي في وقت متأخر السبت سقوط قتلى وجرحى إثر حادث في قاعدة عسكرية في غرب كندا.

وقال ماكغينتي للصحافيين "يؤسفني أن أعلن سقوط قتلى وإصابات نتيجة حادث وقع في قاعدة" وينرايت العسكرية في مقاطعة ألبرتا.

Canada: A wildfire has just broken out in Alberta on the Canadian Forces Base in Wainwright. Both the Prime Minister and Premier have made statements saying a “serious and major incident occurred on the base, with a fast moving fire starting.” Medivac ships are flying into the area, and the official Prime Minister page is calling it a tragedy. The local community is being evacuated, and a large firefighter response is underway. وكان رئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني كتب في وقت سابق السبت على منصة إكس إنّ "حادثاً خطيراً تسبّب في حريق كبير" وقع في القاعدة.

A serious incident creating a major fire has occurred at CFB Wainwright, in Alberta. Our thoughts are with all the brave women and men affected. We are working closely with the Government of Alberta and local authorities. Premier Smith and I are in close contact as are our relevant ministers and officials.

ولم يقدّم المسؤولون تفاصيل حول عدد الضحايا أو طبيعة الحادث في قاعدة وينرايت التابعة للقوات المسلحة الكندية، الواقعة على بعد نحو 200 كيلومتر جنوب شرقي مدينة إدمونتون.

وقال ماكغينتي "سنقدم مزيداً من المعلومات خلال الساعات والأيام المقبلة".
