Research and exploration activities continue in eastern Turkey within the geological formation of "Durupinar," in an attempt to understand the nature of the site that has intrigued researchers for decades, amid hypotheses linking it to Noah's Ark, while geologists believe its shape may be the result of natural factors.

A team of archaeologists and researchers is participating in the project, led by Turkish professor Sinan Atilla from Sivas Cumhuriyet University, in collaboration with the organization "Noah’s Ark Scans." According to the MyCharisma website, the work is being conducted with the approval of Turkish authorities.

Researchers are currently focusing on conducting exploratory excavations and taking soil samples at the site, which is about 515 feet long and takes on a boat-like shape. The formation has attracted attention since its discovery through aerial photographs in 1959.

The team also intends to use a drone named "GOPHER" to examine parts of the site, alongside analyzing the samples collected from different layers of the formation.

Previous geophysical surveys, which included the use of ground-penetrating radar, have detected what researchers described as geometric shapes, right angles, and potential corridors beneath the surface of the site, along with a higher percentage of organic materials in some of its parts compared to the surrounding soil.

The organization participating in the project believes that these indicators may be consistent with the presence of remains of decayed wooden material, but they do not yet represent conclusive evidence that the site belongs to an ancient ship.

Conversely, several researchers are skeptical of this interpretation. Geologist Andrew Snelling and thinker Ken Ham argue that the formation can be explained by natural geological factors, including the movement of limestone rocks and the effects of water on the area over long periods of time.

As excavation and analysis work continues, researchers hope to obtain additional data that will help determine the nature of the formation more accurately, whether it is a natural geological phenomenon or the remains of an ancient human structure, while its connection to the story of Noah's Ark remains an unproven scientific hypothesis to date.
