يعيش أهالي عدد من قرى كتام جنوب محافظة ظهران الجنوب، بينها المعزاب وآل زاهر والزاوية وآل رقصة، معاناة مستمرة بسبب ضعف شبكة الاتصالات وانقطاعها المتكرر، ما انعكس على إنجاز معاملاتهم الإلكترونية، وانتظام الطلاب والطالبات في العملية التعليمية، والتواصل اليومي، وسط مطالبات متكررة لشركات الاتصالات والجهات المعنية بالتدخل العاجل لإنهاء المشكلة.

وقال عدد من سكان القرى لـ«عكاظ»، بينهم عبدالهادي علي الوادعي، وخالد علي آل زاهر، ومرعي علي آل رقصة، وناصر محمد سالم الوادعي، إن برجاً للاتصالات أُنشئ في موقع يخدم أكثر من سبع قرى وآلاف السكان والمتنزهين في جنوب المحافظة، إلا أنه ظل «صامتاً» ولا يقدّم الخدمة المطلوبة، رغم وقوعه في موقع يتوسط القرى.

وأوضح الأهالي أن ضعف الشبكة يضطرهم إلى قطع مسافات بحثاً عن تغطية تمكّنهم من إنجاز معاملاتهم الحكومية والبنكية والإلكترونية، مؤكدين أن المشكلة مستمرة منذ سنوات دون حلول عملية.

وأشار عبدالهادي الوادعي، إلى أن القرى تقع على الطريق الرابط بين محافظة ظهران الجنوب ومنطقة نجران، وتشهد كثافة سكانية، إلى جانب توافد أعداد من المتنزهين إلى متنزه كتام، ما يجعل تحسين خدمات الاتصالات ضرورة تفرضها طبيعة الموقع والنشاط السكاني والسياحي.

من جهته، طالب محمد علي آل سرور، شركات الاتصالات بتنفيذ زيارات ميدانية للوقوف على حجم المعاناة، مبيّناً أن ضعف الشبكة تسبّب خلال العام الماضي في تعذر دخول بعض الطلاب والطالبات إلى منصة «مدرستي»، ما أدى إلى تسجيلهم ضمن حالات الغياب، مؤملاً معالجة المشكلة في هذا العام الدراسي.

وأضاف عبدالله حسين بشير، من سكان قرية الزاوية، أن ضعف الشبكة يعيق التأكد من مواعيد المستشفيات ومراجعتها، مشيراً إلى وجود مدارس للبنين والبنات ومركز صحي بالمنطقة التي يقع فيها البرج.

وأوضح أن البرج لم يستفِد منه الأهالي بالشكل المطلوب، رغم إيصال عداد كهرباء إلى موقع قريب منه، مبيّناً أن الكهرباء لم تصل إلى البرج مباشرة، إذ يعتمد على مولد ديزل يعمل بصورة متقطعة، ما يزيد من معاناة السكان.

وجدّد الأهالي مطالبهم بسرعة معالجة وضع البرج وتشغيله بكفاءة، وتحسين مستوى تغطية الاتصالات في قرى كتام، مؤكدين أن استمرار المشكلة يحرم آلاف السكان من خدمات رقمية أصبحت جزءاً أساسياً من حياتهم اليومية.

The residents of several villages in Katam, south of Dhahran Al-Janub, including Al-Ma'zaab, Al-Zaher, Al-Zawiya, and Al-Raqsa, are experiencing ongoing suffering due to the weak and frequently interrupted telecommunications network, which has affected their ability to complete electronic transactions, the regular attendance of students in the educational process, and daily communication. This has led to repeated calls for telecommunications companies and relevant authorities to intervene urgently to resolve the issue.

A number of villagers told "Okaz," including Abdulhadi Ali Al-Wad'i, Khalid Ali Al-Zaher, Mar'i Ali Al-Raqsa, and Nasir Muhammad Salem Al-Wad'i, that a telecommunications tower was established in a location serving more than seven villages and thousands of residents and visitors in the southern part of the province. However, it has remained "silent" and does not provide the required service, despite its central location among the villages.

The residents explained that the weak network forces them to travel distances in search of coverage that enables them to complete their government, banking, and electronic transactions, confirming that the problem has persisted for years without practical solutions.

Abdulhadi Al-Wad'i pointed out that the villages are located on the road connecting Dhahran Al-Janub and Najran, and they experience a high population density, in addition to the influx of visitors to Katam Park, which makes improving telecommunications services a necessity imposed by the nature of the location and the demographic and tourist activities.

For his part, Mohammed Ali Al-Sarour called on telecommunications companies to conduct field visits to assess the extent of the suffering, noting that the weak network caused some students to be unable to access the "Madrasati" platform last year, leading to their registration as absent cases, hoping for a resolution to the problem in this academic year.

Abdullah Hussein Bashir, a resident of Al-Zawiya village, added that the weak network hinders confirming hospital appointments and attending them, pointing out that there are schools for boys and girls and a health center in the area where the tower is located.

He clarified that the tower has not benefited the residents as required, despite the installation of an electricity meter at a nearby location, indicating that electricity has not reached the tower directly, as it relies on a diesel generator that operates intermittently, which increases the residents' suffering.

The residents renewed their demands for the swift resolution of the tower's situation and its efficient operation, as well as improving the level of telecommunications coverage in the villages of Katam, emphasizing that the continuation of the problem deprives thousands of residents of digital services that have become an essential part of their daily lives.
