أكد الأسترالي جراهام أرنولد، مدرب المنتخب العراقي الأول لكرة القدم، أن «أسود الرافدين» يدخلون منافسات كأس الخليج العربي «خليجي 27» بطموح التتويج باللقب، مشدداً على أهمية البطولة في منح العناصر الشابة فرصة لإظهار إمكاناتها، وذلك قبل مواجهة عُمان غداً (الأربعاء) في مستهل مشوار المنتخبين بالبطولة.

وقال أرنولد خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي يسبق المواجهة: «البطولة مهمة للاعبين الشباب، فلديهم مستقبل مشرق، وأعتقد أنهم يمتلكون مهارات كبيرة، وهذه البطولة تمنحهم الفرصة للمشاركة وإظهار قدراتهم».

وشدد المدرب الأسترالي على أن تركيز المنتخب العراقي ينصب على الحاضر دون الالتفات إلى الماضي، قائلاً: «لا يمكننا أن نبحث عن الماضي، وعلينا أن نفكر في البطولة الحالية، وطموحنا هو الحصول على اللقب».

وأضاف: «هذه البطولة مهمة للكرة العراقية، وهذا يدل على التطور الذي تشهده كرة القدم لدينا»، معرباً عن ثقته بقدرة لاعبيه على تقديم مستويات قوية خلال المنافسات.

وكشف أرنولد أن الجهاز الفني يعمل على رفع المعدل اللياقي للاعبين قبل الدخول في غمار البطولة، في ظل وجود عدد من الإصابات، وقال: «نعمل على زيادة الجانب اللياقي، ولدينا لاعبون مصابون ونسعى لتعويض غيابهم، واللاعبون الموجودون قادرون على تقديم مستويات كبيرة في البطولة».

من جانبه، قدم مهاجم المنتخب العراقي أيمن حسين شكره للسعودية على استضافة البطولة، وهنأ المملكة بمناسبة اليوم الوطني، قائلاً: «نشكر السعودية على الاستضافة، ونبارك لهم اليوم الوطني، والسعودية بلدنا الثاني».

وأكد حسين أن الجماهير العراقية تنتظر من المنتخب تحقيق المزيد من الإنجازات، مضيفاً: «جماهيرنا تنتظر منا المزيد وتحقيق البطولات، وبإذن الله يتحقق ذلك بدعمها وتشجيعها».

وأشار مهاجم «أسود الرافدين» إلى حجم التغيير الذي طرأ على قائمة المنتخب، مؤكداً أن العناصر الشابة قادرة على تحمل المسؤولية، وقال: «اللاعبون تغيروا، ونحو 50% من القائمة لاعبون شبان يملكون مواهب متعددة، وهم جاهزون للبطولة، ولا بد أن نسعد الجمهور العراقي بتحقيق اللقب».

ويستهل المنتخب العراقي مشواره في «خليجي 27» بمواجهة نظيره العُماني غداً (الأربعاء)، باحثاً عن بداية قوية في سباق المنافسة على اللقب الخليجي.

Arnold said during the press conference preceding the match: "The tournament is important for young players, as they have a bright future, and I believe they possess great skills. This tournament gives them the chance to participate and demonstrate their abilities."

The Australian coach stressed that the Iraqi team's focus is on the present without looking back to the past, stating: "We cannot dwell on the past; we must think about the current tournament, and our ambition is to win the title."

He added: "This tournament is important for Iraqi football, and it reflects the development that our football is experiencing," expressing his confidence in his players' ability to deliver strong performances during the competitions.

Arnold revealed that the coaching staff is working on improving the players' fitness levels before entering the tournament, given the presence of several injuries. He said: "We are working on enhancing the fitness aspect, and we have injured players, and we are trying to compensate for their absence. The players available are capable of delivering great performances in the tournament."

For his part, Iraqi national team striker Ayman Hussein expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting the tournament and congratulated the kingdom on its National Day, saying: "We thank Saudi Arabia for the hosting, and we congratulate them on National Day; Saudi Arabia is our second country."

Hussein confirmed that Iraqi fans expect the team to achieve more accomplishments, adding: "Our fans expect more from us and to win championships, and God willing, that will be achieved with their support and encouragement."

The "Lions of Mesopotamia" striker pointed to the extent of the changes that have occurred in the national team roster, confirming that the young players are capable of taking on responsibility. He said: "The players have changed, and about 50% of the roster consists of young players with multiple talents, and they are ready for the tournament. We must make the Iraqi fans happy by winning the title."

The Iraqi national team will begin its journey in "Gulf 27" with a match against its Omani counterpart tomorrow (Wednesday), seeking a strong start in the race for the Gulf title.
