اقتربت الولايات المتحدة والدنمارك وغرينلاند من توقيع اتفاق «ملزم» بشأن أمن غرينلاند، وسط تأكيدات دنماركية وأمريكية بأن الاتفاق سيعزز الأمن في منطقة القطب الشمالي وشمال المحيط الأطلسي، وينهي فترة من عدم الاستقرار.

وقال وزير الخارجية الدنماركي لارس لوكه راسموسن، اليوم (السبت)، إن الاتفاق المرتقب يمثل خطوة لتعزيز الأمن المشترك في القطب الشمالي وشمال الأطلسي، معرباً عن أمله في أن تشهد الأسبوع القادم تطورات إيجابية لغرينلاند والدنمارك والولايات المتحدة.

وأكد راسموسن أن الاتفاق الملزم من شأنه أن يعزز أمن المنطقة، إلى جانب أمن حلف شمال الأطلسي وأوروبا، في وقت تستعد فيه الأطراف الثلاثة لتوقيعه على هامش اجتماعات الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة.

من جانبه، أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أمس، أن الاتفاق يتضمن تعزيز الوجود العسكري الأمريكي في غرينلاند بصورة كبيرة، إلى جانب وضع قيود على إمكانية إقامة خصوم الولايات المتحدة قواعد عسكرية أو وجود عسكري أو تنفيذ استثمارات حساسة في الجزيرة دون موافقة واشنطن.

وقال ترمب إن الاتفاق لا يتضمن تاريخاً لانتهائه، مؤكداً أن الولايات المتحدة ستحتفظ بالقدرة على اتخاذ ما تراه ضرورياً لضمان أمن غرينلاند والولايات المتحدة.

وشدد الرئيس الأمريكي على أن أي خصم لبلاده لن يتمكن مستقبلاً من إقامة قاعدة أو وجود عسكري في غرينلاند، أو تنفيذ استثمارات حساسة فيها، دون موافقة أمريكية صريحة وكتابية.

وفي كوبنهاغن، أعلنت رئيسة الوزراء الدنماركية ميته فريدريكسن أن الاتفاق بين غرينلاند والدنمارك والولايات المتحدة متوقع توقيعه الأسبوع القادم، معتبرة أنه سيكون مفيداً لحلف شمال الأطلسي وأوروبا، ويعزز الأمن المشترك في القطب الشمالي وشمال المحيط الأطلسي.

ومن المقرر توقيع الاتفاق على هامش الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، في خطوة تعكس الأهمية الإستراتيجية المتزايدة لغرينلاند وموقعها في الحسابات الأمنية للقطب الشمالي.

The United States, Denmark, and Greenland are close to signing a "binding" agreement regarding the security of Greenland, amid Danish and American assurances that the agreement will enhance security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic, and end a period of instability.

Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated today (Saturday) that the anticipated agreement represents a step towards strengthening joint security in the Arctic and North Atlantic, expressing hope that the coming week will witness positive developments for Greenland, Denmark, and the United States.

Rasmussen confirmed that the binding agreement would enhance the security of the region, alongside the security of NATO and Europe, at a time when the three parties are preparing to sign it on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the agreement includes significantly enhancing the U.S. military presence in Greenland, as well as imposing restrictions on the ability of U.S. adversaries to establish military bases or military presence or undertake sensitive investments on the island without Washington's approval.

Trump stated that the agreement does not include an expiration date, emphasizing that the United States will retain the ability to take whatever actions it deems necessary to ensure the security of Greenland and the United States.

The U.S. president stressed that no adversary of his country will be able in the future to establish a base or military presence in Greenland, or undertake sensitive investments there, without explicit and written American approval.

In Copenhagen, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced that the agreement between Greenland, Denmark, and the United States is expected to be signed next week, considering it beneficial for NATO and Europe, and enhancing joint security in the Arctic and North Atlantic.

The agreement is set to be signed on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, in a move that reflects the increasing strategic importance of Greenland and its position in the security calculations of the Arctic.
