في الثالث والعشرين من سبتمبر من كل عام، يحدث شيء يتجاوز الاحتفال بتاريخ على التقويم؛ يستعيد السعوديون حكاية وطنهم من بدايتها، ثم ينظرون حولهم ليروا إلى أين وصلت. ومع الأعوام، لم يعد اليوم الوطني مجرد ذكرى لوطن توحّد، بل أصبح كرنفال حب لوطن يتجدّد؛ يوماً تلتقي فيه ذاكرة عبدالعزيز بطموح جيل يعيش تحوّلاً لم تعرفه البلاد بهذا الاتساع من قبل. وبين الذاكرة والطموح، يبرز سؤال يستحق أن نسأله كل عام: ما الذي يجعل اعتزاز السعودي بوطنه يكبر كلما كبر الوطن؟

في اليوم الوطني لا نحتفل بتاريخٍ مضى بقدر ما نحتفل بدولة أثبتت، جيلاً بعد جيل، قدرتها على أن تحفظ أصلها وهي تتقدّم، وأن تصون هويتها وهي تتغيّر، وأن تجعل من الأمن قاعدةً للعمران لا غايةً تقف عندها. وربما هنا تحديداً تكمن خصوصية التجربة السعودية: ثبات في الأصل، وجرأة في البناء، ودولة تعرف من أين بدأت وإلى أين تريد أن تصل.

حين وحّد الملك عبدالعزيز هذه البلاد، لم يكن يجمع أرضاً متفرقة تحت راية واحدة فحسب؛ كان يؤسّس دولة تستمد مرجعيتها من شرع الله، وتعيد للناس الأمن بعد الفرقة، وتجمع الكلمة، ثم تأخذ بأسباب عصرها كلما كان فيها ما يقوي الدولة ويحسّن حياة الناس. لم يرَ المؤسس في التحديث خصماً للهوية، ولا في المحافظة على الأصل عذراً للتوقف. فالملك المؤسس لم يبنِ دولةً تعيش على أمجاد ماضيها، بل دولةً تعرف أصلها وتفهم زمانها؛ ثابتةً في دينها وهويتها، متحركةً في أدواتها، وكان الأمن فيها بداية العمران لا نهايته.

ومضت الدولة على هذه القاعدة. تغيّر الملوك، وتغيّر العالم، واتسعت المدن، وتعقد الاقتصاد، وتبدلت أدوات الحكم والإدارة، لكن الأمانة بقيت واحدة: دين ووحدة وأمن وإنسان ودولة لا تتوقف عن التطوير. وحمل أبناء عبدالعزيز تلك الأمانة جيلاً بعد جيل، حتى عهد خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبدالعزيز، الذي صان إرث الدولة، وفي عهده انطلقت بقيادة سمو ولي العهد الأمير محمد بن سلمان واحدة من أوسع مراحل التحوّل في تاريخ المملكة الحديث.

وفي محمد بن سلمان تجلت هذه القاعدة السعودية بصورة جديدة؛ فلم يكن الإرث في رؤيته ماضياً يُصان فحسب، بل قوةً يُبنى بها المستقبل. ولعل ما يميز شخصيته القيادية أنه لا ينظر إلى الطموح بوصفه أمنيةً للمستقبل، بل مسؤوليةً تبدأ من قرار اليوم؛ يرفع السقف، ثم يدفع مؤسسات الدولة والمجتمع إلى بلوغه. وفي طريقته في القيادة شيء من عدم الرضا بالاكتفاء بما تحقق؛ فالسؤال عنده لا يقف طويلاً عند أين وصلنا، بل ينتقل سريعاً إلى: أين ينبغي أن نصل؟

رفع سقف الطموح السعودي، وأعاد تشكيل الاقتصاد، وفتح قطاعات، وبنى صناعات، واستقطب استثمارات، ودفع بالتقنية والسياحة والثقافة والرياضة إلى قلب المشهد الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، ووسع مساحة حضور المرأة والشباب في التنمية، وفي الوقت نفسه أعاد رسم موقع المملكة في السياسة والاقتصاد الدوليين. لم يعد المستقبل بالنسبة للسعودي شيئاً ينتظره؛ أصبح يرى وطنه يذهب إليه.

ولعل بعض التحوّلات الكبرى لا تستطيع الأرقام وحدها قياسها؛ لأن شيئاً مهماً تغيّر داخل السعودي نفسه. تغيرت الطريقة التي ينظر بها إلى وطنه، والطريقة التي ينظر بها العالم إلى السعودية. أصبح السعودي حين يحمل اسم بلاده خارجها يعرف أن خلفه دولة حاضرة في القرار السياسي والاقتصاد والاستثمار والطاقة والثقافة والرياضة؛ دولة لا تبحث عن مكان على الطاولة، بل أصبح وجودها جزءاً من تشكيل كثير مما يدور حولها.

لكن الدول لا تُختبر في سنوات الرخاء وحدها

وهذا العام تحديداً أعطانا معنى آخر للفخر بالدولة. ففي إقليم شهد توترات ومواجهات وتهديدات، وعاشت فيه مجتمعات قريبة على وقع الإنذارات وتعطل بعض الرحلات واضطراب الحسابات، بقيت الحياة في المملكة تمضي. ذهب الناس إلى أعمالهم، والأبناء إلى مدارسهم، وعملت المطارات والأسواق، واستمرت المشاريع، وتحرك الاستثمار، ومضت خطط التنمية. لم يكن ما حولنا هادئاً؛ لكن السعودية بقيت ثابتة.

ولعل ما يستحق التوقف عنده أيضاً أن هذا الثبات لم يكن في مؤسسات الدولة وحدها، بل ظهر في وعي المجتمع السعودي، وشبابه على وجه الخصوص. ففي أوقات الأزمات تُختبر المجتمعات كما تُختبر الدول؛ بالشائعة، والخبر المضلل، ومحاولات إثارة الخوف أو التشكيك. وفي كل مرة يثبت الشاب السعودي أنه أكثر وعياً بوطنه مما يظن به من يراقبه من بعيد؛ يعرف متى يتحدث، ومتى يتحقق، ومن أين يأخذ خبره، ويدرك أن الاصطفاف خلف قيادته عند الخطر ليس انفعالاً عابراً، بل مسؤولية وطنية. ومن الصغير إلى الكبير، تشكلت في المملكة عبر السنين علاقة بين المواطن ودولته قوامها أن الاختلاف في تفاصيل الحياة ممكن، لكن عندما يتعلق الأمر بأمن الوطن وسيادته، تصغر المسافات وتصبح السعودية هي الموقف.

وهذه ليست مصادفة، ولا ينبغي أن نقرأ الأمن باعتباره مجرد غياب للخطر. خلف اليوم العادي الذي يعيشه المواطن دولة تعمل حتى يبقى يومه عادياً؛ مؤسسات تحمي، وقيادة تستشرف، ودبلوماسية تخفض التصعيد، وقدرات تُبنى، واقتصاد لا يُسمح للأزمات بأن توقف مساره. وهنا يصبح الأمن إنجازاً لا نراه دائماً، لأن أجمل صوره أن يعيش الإنسان حياته من دون أن يشعر بحجم ما بُذل لحمايتها.

وللاستقرار أيضاً قيمة اقتصادية لا تقل عن قيمته الإنسانية. فالاستقرار أصل اقتصادي. رأس المال يحسب المخاطر قبل الأرباح، والمستثمر طويل الأجل يريد دولة يستطيع أن يثق بمسارها، والمشروعات الكبرى لا تُبنى حيث يصبح المستقبل رهينة للأزمة التالية. ولذلك فإن قدرة المملكة على حماية استقرارها بينما تمضي في تحولها ليست منفصلة عن نجاحها الاقتصادي؛ بل هي أحد أهم شروطه.

وهنا أفهم عبارة «عزّنا في حكّامنا» هذا العام بمعنى أكبر من شعار مناسبة. العز ليس في الكلمات، بل في أن يكون لك وطن يعرف كيف يحمي وهو يبني، وكيف يصنع السلام من موقع القوة، وكيف يتغير من دون أن يفقد هويته، وكيف يجعل المواطن محور التنمية وغاية الأمن معاً.

عزّنا في عبدالعزيز الذي وحّد الأرض وأرسى الأمن، وفي أبنائه الملوك الذين حملوا الأمانة من بعده، وفي سلمان الذي صان الإرث، وفي محمد بن سلمان الذي أخذ هذا الإرث إلى زمن جديد، ورفع سقف الممكن أمام جيل سعودي شاب لم يعد يرى نفسه متلقياً لمستقبل وطنه، بل شريكاً في صناعته.

وفي يومنا الوطني، لا نحتفل فقط بوطن مضى على تأسيسه عقود؛ نحتفل بفكرة دولة أثبتت قدرتها على التجدد. دولة بدأت بوحدة الأرض، ثم بنت الإنسان والمؤسسة والاقتصاد، وها هي اليوم تبني المستقبل من دون أن تفقد أصلها.

ومن عبدالعزيز الذي عرف أصل الدولة وفهم زمانه، إلى سلمان الذي صان أمانتها، إلى محمد بن سلمان الذي وسّع أفقها وأعاد للسعودي شعوراً كبيراً بمكان وطنه في العالم؛ تتغير المنطقة، وتتبدل موازين العالم، وتتسارع الأحداث، ويبقى الثابت أن لهذه البلاد قيادة تعرف قيمة ما ورثت، وشعباً يعرف قيمة ما يملك.

ولهذا نقولها في يومنا الوطني، لا كشعارٍ عابر، بل كمعنى عاشه السعوديون جيلاً بعد جيل:

عزّنا في حكّامنا... ثباتُ وطن وعزيمةُ دولة.

On the twenty-third of September each year, something happens that goes beyond celebrating a date on the calendar; Saudis reclaim the story of their homeland from its beginnings and then look around to see how far it has come. Over the years, National Day has become not just a memory of a unified nation, but a carnival of love for a nation that renews itself; a day when the memory of Abdulaziz meets the aspirations of a generation experiencing a transformation the country has never known before. And between memory and aspiration, a question arises that deserves to be asked every year: What makes a Saudi's pride in their homeland grow as the nation grows?

On National Day, we do not celebrate a past history as much as we celebrate a state that has proven, generation after generation, its ability to preserve its roots while advancing, to safeguard its identity while changing, and to make security a foundation for development rather than a goal to stop at. Perhaps this is where the uniqueness of the Saudi experience lies: stability in origin, boldness in building, and a state that knows where it started and where it wants to go.

When King Abdulaziz unified this land, he was not merely bringing together scattered territories under one banner; he was establishing a state that derives its legitimacy from the law of God, restoring security to the people after division, unifying voices, and then seizing the opportunities of its era whenever there was something that could strengthen the state and improve people's lives. The founder did not see modernization as an enemy of identity, nor did he view preserving the original as an excuse to stop. The founding king did not build a state that lives on the glories of its past, but a state that knows its origins and understands its time; stable in its religion and identity, dynamic in its tools, with security being the beginning of development, not its end.

The state has continued on this foundation. Kings have changed, the world has changed, cities have expanded, economies have become complex, and the tools of governance and administration have evolved, but the trust has remained the same: faith, unity, security, humanity, and a state that does not cease to develop. The sons of Abdulaziz have carried that trust from generation to generation, up to the era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, who preserved the legacy of the state, and during his reign, under the leadership of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, one of the widest phases of transformation in the modern history of the Kingdom was launched.

In Mohammed bin Salman, this Saudi principle has manifested in a new form; the legacy in his vision is not just a past to be preserved, but a strength with which to build the future. Perhaps what distinguishes his leadership style is that he does not view ambition as a wish for the future, but as a responsibility that begins with today’s decisions; he raises the bar and then drives state institutions and society to reach it. In his leadership approach, there is a sense of dissatisfaction with merely being content with what has been achieved; for him, the question does not linger long on where we have reached, but quickly shifts to: Where should we reach?

He raised the ceiling of Saudi ambition, reshaped the economy, opened sectors, built industries, attracted investments, and pushed technology, tourism, culture, and sports to the heart of the economic and social scene, while expanding the presence of women and youth in development. At the same time, he redrew the Kingdom's position in international politics and economics. The future is no longer something the Saudi waits for; they now see their homeland moving towards it.

Some major transformations cannot be measured by numbers alone; because something significant has changed within the Saudi themselves. The way they view their homeland has changed, as has the way the world views Saudi Arabia. When a Saudi carries the name of their country abroad, they know that behind them is a state present in political decision-making, economics, investment, energy, culture, and sports; a state that does not seek a place at the table, but whose existence has become part of shaping much of what happens around it.

But nations are not tested only in times of prosperity.

This year, in particular, gave us another meaning of pride in the state. In a region that has witnessed tensions, confrontations, and threats, where communities have lived under the weight of warnings, disrupted some flights, and fluctuated in calculations, life in the Kingdom continued. People went to their jobs, children went to their schools, airports and markets operated, projects continued, investments moved, and development plans progressed. What surrounded us was not calm; yet Saudi Arabia remained steadfast.

It is also worth noting that this steadfastness was not only in the state institutions but also manifested in the awareness of Saudi society, particularly its youth. In times of crisis, societies are tested just as states are; through rumors, misleading news, and attempts to incite fear or doubt. Each time, the Saudi youth prove to be more aware of their homeland than those who observe them from afar might think; they know when to speak, when to verify, where to get their news, and they understand that standing behind their leadership in times of danger is not a fleeting reaction, but a national responsibility. From the young to the old, a relationship has formed in the Kingdom over the years between the citizen and their state, based on the principle that differences in the details of life are possible, but when it comes to the security and sovereignty of the homeland, distances shrink, and Saudi Arabia becomes the stance.

This is not a coincidence, nor should we read security as merely the absence of danger. Behind the ordinary day that the citizen lives is a state working to ensure that their day remains ordinary; institutions that protect, leadership that anticipates, diplomacy that de-escalates, capabilities that are built, and an economy that does not allow crises to halt its course. Here, security becomes an achievement that we do not always see, because its most beautiful image is that a person lives their life without feeling the extent of what has been done to protect it.

Stability also has an economic value that is no less than its human value. Stability is an economic foundation. Capital assesses risks before profits, and long-term investors want a state they can trust in its trajectory, while major projects are not built where the future becomes hostage to the next crisis. Therefore, the Kingdom's ability to protect its stability while moving towards transformation is not separate from its economic success; rather, it is one of its most important conditions.

Here, I understand the phrase "Our pride is in our rulers" this year in a meaning greater than a mere slogan for an occasion. Pride is not in words, but in having a homeland that knows how to protect while it builds, how to make peace from a position of strength, how to change without losing its identity, and how to make the citizen the center of development and the goal of security at the same time.

Our pride is in Abdulaziz, who unified the land and established security, in his sons the kings who carried the trust after him, in Salman, who preserved the legacy, and in Mohammed bin Salman, who took this legacy to a new era and raised the ceiling of possibilities for a young Saudi generation that no longer sees itself as a recipient of its homeland's future, but as a partner in its creation.

On our National Day, we do not only celebrate a homeland that has been established for decades; we celebrate the idea of a state that has proven its ability to renew itself. A state that began with the unity of the land, then built the human, the institution, and the economy, and today is building the future without losing its roots.

From Abdulaziz, who understood the origins of the state and its time, to Salman, who preserved its trust, to Mohammed bin Salman, who expanded its horizons and restored to the Saudi a great sense of their homeland's place in the world; the region changes, the balances of the world shift, events accelerate, and the constant remains that this country has a leadership that knows the value of what it inherited, and a people that knows the value of what it possesses.

And so we say it on our National Day, not as a fleeting slogan, but as a meaning that Saudis have lived through generations:

Our pride is in our rulers... the steadfastness of a homeland and the determination of a state.
