طالب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش الدول برفع قدرات الطاقة المتجددة إلى ثلاثة أمثالها، ومضاعفة كفاءة استخدام الطاقة، وتسريع التحول نحو الكهرباء، وخفض انبعاثات الميثان، ووقف إزالة الغابات، مشددًا على تلبية الطلب المتزايد على الكهرباء، بما فيه الطلب المرتبط بالذكاء الاصطناعي، من خلال التوسع في الطاقة المتجددة والشبكات وأنظمة التخزين.
«العشرين» تتولى التحول
أكد خلال قمة المناخ التي تعقد في نيويورك، ضمن الأسبوع الرفيع المستوى للدورة الحادية والثمانين للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، ضرورة تولي مجموعة العشرين قيادة هذا التحول، مع توفير فرص العمل والحماية الاجتماعية، وتمكين الدول النامية من المشاركة في تحديد مساره والاستفادة منه.
وفي مجال التمويل، دعا غوتيريش إلى حشد ما لا يقل عن 300 مليار دولار سنويًا لصالح الدول النامية بقيادة الدول المتقدمة، والوصول بالتمويل المناخي إلى 1.3 تريليون دولار سنويًا بحلول عام 2035.
تسريع تطوير الكهرباء
شملت المبادرات المطروحة بالتزامن مع القمة إطلاق مبادرة عالمية لتسريع تطوير شبكات الكهرباء، تركز في مرحلتها الأولى على أفريقيا وجنوب شرق آسيا، لدعم تمويل وتنفيذ مشاريع الشبكات ومواكبة التوسع في إنتاج الطاقة المتجددة، كما أُعلنت آلية لدعم الدول في مجال المعادن الحيوية لتحول الطاقة، تبدأ عملها في غينيا وإندونيسيا ومدغشقر ونيجيريا وزامبيا وزيمبابوي، وتستهدف مساعدة الدول النامية الغنية بالموارد على تطوير سلاسل القيمة المعدنية وزيادة استفادتها الاقتصادية منها.
واستعرضت الأمم المتحدة تقدم مبادرة «الإنذار المبكر للجميع»، التي حشدت نحو ملياري دولار خلال المدة من 2022 إلى 2025، فيما تتلقى أكثر من 160 دولة دعمًا مباشرًا لتعزيز أنظمتها، ضمن هدف توفير الحماية لجميع سكان العالم بأنظمة الإنذار المبكر بحلول نهاية عام 2027.
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged countries to triple renewable energy capacity, double energy efficiency, accelerate the transition to electricity, reduce methane emissions, and halt deforestation, emphasizing the need to meet the growing demand for electricity, including demand related to artificial intelligence, through the expansion of renewable energy, networks, and storage systems.
The G20 Takes the Lead
During the climate summit held in New York as part of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, he stressed the necessity for the G20 to lead this transition, while providing job opportunities and social protection, and enabling developing countries to participate in shaping its course and benefiting from it.
In the area of financing, Guterres called for mobilizing at least $300 billion annually for developing countries led by developed nations, and for climate financing to reach $1.3 trillion annually by 2035.
Accelerating Electricity Development
The initiatives proposed alongside the summit included the launch of a global initiative to accelerate the development of electricity networks, focusing in its first phase on Africa and Southeast Asia, to support the financing and implementation of network projects and keep pace with the expansion of renewable energy production. A mechanism was also announced to support countries in the area of critical minerals for the energy transition, starting its work in Guinea, Indonesia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, aiming to help resource-rich developing countries develop mineral value chains and increase their economic benefits.
The United Nations reviewed the progress of the "Early Warning for All" initiative, which has mobilized nearly $2 billion from 2022 to 2025, while more than 160 countries are receiving direct support to enhance their systems, with the goal of providing protection for all the world's population through early warning systems by the end of 2027.
